I don’t have a 64-bit machine, nor a 64-bit OS to even emulate if thats possible [dont think VMWare can emulate 64-bit can it?]

So until I find someone… capable enough…. of helping me with that, im afraid its only for 32-bit….. 🙁

….you are prorbably right, it could be driver errors. Check the “Event viewer” > “Custom Views” > “Administrative Events” and share with us any entries that have either level…

    [!] Warning
    [!] Error

…in the list. Usuaully, there are always some in there. Many can be safely ignored, and many wont need to be fixed. But something in there could give us a hint.

SetPoint 4.6 [latest for my G5] installed completely fine for me, guess i’m lucky.

in reply to: Code 10 -FIXED #47383

Hmm… i really don’t know sorry. It could be anything. 🙁

Umm…. have you tried manually installing the INF driver rather than let Setup do its thing? Also tell me these things…

    #1 Running x86 or x64?
#2 Service “Wired AutoConfig” enabled? Yes you need this for some [or most maybe] Wireless cards
#3 Do you have any security programs installed?

The fact that you have code 10 for two completely unrelated device drivers is telling me that there is something more complicated under the surface causing this…

But also try this. First uninstall ALL wireless programs/drivers in Programs and Features. Then reboot, and run a registry clean with CCleaner a few times. After that, hit up “Device Manager” and go to “View” > “Show Hidden Devices” to show any devices that have drivers currently installed on ur PC but are not connected. You should see a few “Ghosted out” icons, especially under the USB tree expand. Delete all of these “ghosted” icons to delete them from the driver cache. Then restart.

Then try reinstalling your driver again.

What exactly is the reason for this request of help if I may ask?

There are a lot of little things that could be the problem. Whats the actual error?

Haha cheers man, my mother lives up there so you never know I might hold you to that! Didn’t know of any other aussies on here 🙂 Yes its a very cool site, lots of crap goin on though sometimes it overwhelmes me.

FF3 eats up 2.5 GB commit when you look in the resource monitor. It also uses 1.5 GB (in task mgr) if you leave one youtube tab and 8 browser tabs. Even with the mem limiter hack..

IE7 pro does good but I have problems with javascript anything even base IE7x64 even adding youtube to trusted sites and all that mess. so I just do flash stuff in FF and my regular browsing in IE.

any other browsers that are 64 bit???

That’s.. really odd. I have 9 tabs open, one being Facebook [heavy, uses Ruby on Steele] and the other on a YouTube paused video, a bunch of tabs for this forum here, deviantart, AutoIt forums, and the Microsoft Homepage….

Memory [Private Working Set] is 320MB. Dont dont whats wrong there. Oh and I also have about 9 addons installed.

Opera is still the best for speed and resource usage though I find. IE7 takes 5-10 seconds to load on my PC for some reason 😐

EDIT: But is as I always say, some things just tend to work better for some people/some computers. Not to mention I have a distinct feeling you are running an AMD chip…?

in reply to: Gameperformance Win 08 #46883

    I am running enterprise 😐

All i can say is to make sure your system is fully configured/converted. Update to the latest DirectX [June 2008 i believe], make sure priority is given to FOREGROUND applications and not background services, umm… and for low end systems disable the Windows Sidebar, try killing everything in Task Manager which can be killed, inlcuding explorer.exe, then do “New Task” from TaskManager and try running Far Cry like that just to see if it still does it…

There are many people who seem to have a hard time getting good performance out of Server 2008. No idea why. If someone was willing to install UltraVNC maybe I could dialin and check it out just to find out, but who really would trust me with that HAHA!

    http://www.defraggler.com/
    http://www.ccleaner.com/
    http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

Defraggler – Awesome little defrag tool
CCleaner – The ONLY worthwhile “Crap Cleaner” for your system
NTREGOPT – The NT Registry Optimizer defragments and consolidates your registry hive

I highly recommend these three programs to anyone! Peace!

EDIT: On that last one, he also has another software called ERUNT which is effectively a replacement for System Restore. However, I have NOT tested it on 2008. I am considering giving it a go, and making an advanced installer/frontend for it to allow running it from a USB stick at startup [via a cut-down OS to restore unbootable system] and to support user files and/or drivers if needed, etcetera. But no timeframe for this, more important things to worry about 🙂

in reply to: Microsoft Experience Index #46600

Yeah, dont be worried for bumping the thread Necsis079, I have an interest in getting the user interface for the whole Windows Experience Index and the games folder and all that in Server 2008 definately! After I fix Media Center and/or Origami, I might check this out 😀

Speaking of which, Arris do you think maybe a wishlist sorted by *priority* could be in order? Just an informal thing for me to check out? I’m sure all sorts of people have asked you how to do this and that, and that there are probably many many things you know of that 2008 doesnt have, which isnt listed in the site [BitLocker Drive Encryption for example isnt on here I dont think, but I dont care about it anyway lol just an example]

in reply to: I need the original tcpip.sys file. #47225

If you want to patch tcpip.sys for half-open limit increase to get higher bittorrent speeds, believe me YOU DONT NEED IT 😀

It is NOT the same as the Windows XP Patch. Windows XP SP2 introduced an actual TCP/IP concurrent connection limit, but the Vista/2008 HALF-OPEN TCP/IP connections are different – basically in Torrent for example, if a peer/seed is discovered, but hasnt actually established the connection to transfer data yet, its just sitting there saying im “ready” to connect – that’s a HALF-OPEN connection.

Another example is when you have a port forwarded to your PC too – thats another type of half-open connection [on the router OS though, not the Windows OS]. I actually DID manage to HEX-edit my tcpip.sys file to increase the max half-open limit, and it did not help my torrent speeds at all 🙂

BUT As for the Event Log annoyance, “TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.”, I have NO IDEA how to shut that up and i’m sick of my Log being flooded with this crap. It seems that ever since Windows XP, its IMPOSSIBLE to have an Event Log with no errors – Windows just loves reporting problems 🙁 and I know they are not bad errors but its annoying :'(

in reply to: Looking for help #45809

Let me know if you want some nice “interface graphics” or anything, because I don’t know jack about PHP or WordPress, but do a lot of graphic/GUI design 😀

I do have the aero effects on without any slowdowns. Looks great too!

Aero FTW. Unlike Windows XP, Aero and the DWM Service uses the power of your GPU to provide hardware acceleration to the user interface. Windows XP uses GDI+ – it is software rendered and will saturate your CPU 🙂

If Aero slows your computer down, your graphics card isn’t fast enough 😀 But even so, I have a 7300GT [haha] and using Aero provides a much nicer looking interface – and when I am doing something CPU intensive [eg DVD video encoding] the CPU usage is generally LOWER when Aero is in use because the CPU is doing less UI rendering than when Aero is off, coz the GPU is helping it along 🙂

Of course its tricky to benchmark such performance in a controlled environment! There are many articles on the web though that talk about what i’ve said, most from Microsoft and reputable sites.
