PC Tools Internet Security 2010 seems to work for me. I am now in the process of updating the list.

EDIT: The list is updated except for the items that are left on the [r2security:kxb37m4s]Security Software[/r2security:kxb37m4s] page of the manual.

Welcome to the Win2008[R2]Workstation.com forums! That list may be useful to some users. We have some of our own lists started around the forums but we are always happy to update them.

If you guys wish to continue discussing Midori / Singularity, make a topic in the [localurl=viewforum.php?f=3:ulpdndnf]Open Topic[/localurl:ulpdndnf] forum.

Here are a few links that may be of interest within your discussion:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singularity_(operating_system)

It seems like you guys have already read these based on what you have said, but just in case anyone else was slightly confused on what you guys are talking about.

Did your device come with a CD? Have you check the manufacturer’s website?

I honestly can’t think of a single thing that XP can do and R2 cannot.

16-Bit (“Legacy”) Apps is the only thing that I can think of, but those could most likely run in a Windows XP Virtual Machine if need to. Most people don’t need to use 16-Bit apps as far as I know. 16-Bit apps won’t run because R2 is 64-Bit only – make sure your computer can handle it. Run SecurAble if you are not sure.

I haven’t even noticed that, but that’s nice! Also the website/forum is visited very often last days (stats screen), mainly because of the topic at fatwallet.com

That’s a lot of views! 😎 If I’m reading the stats right, the “Final Win2008R2Workstation” page seems to be getting lots of traffic, another reason to make a video for people to watch to try and convince them to switch to Server R2 😛

As of now, I’ve switched to VMware Player 3.0 RC as I was using the trial of Workstation. VMware Player 3 RC allows you to create and use VMs (I don’t think 2.x could create new ones) and it supports Aero. I figured that I’d try it out as it is free and it has about 95% of the features I need (stripped version of Workstation) but it doesn’t have the recording feature (as far as I know) but I have recording software on my computer I can use so that doesn’t matter. So far I am liking it.

Even if you use the Evaluation ISO, you can get a total of 240 days trial in which you can use Windows Server 2008 R2 for free if you use the method described on this page.

I re-read my Moderators PM and the guidelines that Arris told me were:

    @Arris wrote:

I don’t really have guidelines; just make sure everyone at the forum stays positive, constructive and happy and stop the discussions about illegal stuff like activation cracks etc. at this forum.

So I am not sure if this method falls into the piracy category, it seems to be, but I’m not 100% sure. We will just have to wait and see. If you read the comments on the page I mentioned above, people have asked whether this method works/etc, but I’m not sure if Arris has read those comments and approved of them, so I’m not sure if it’s considered piracy and if updates/etc still work. You could use the Evaluation ISO for now if you wanted to, you will just have to re-install Windows once your activation/re-arms have run out and Windows goes into the “Non-genuine/Reduced Functionality” mode which still allows you to access your files and use the OS, just with reduced functionality. I have a Windows Web Server 2008 R2 in a VM that has run out of its initial 10-day trial and has entered reduced functionality mode and it seems that it is still usable as an OS – I’m just not sure what it affects.

Details of Vista’s reduced functionality mode can be found here, I would assume it’s similar:

Update I got from Arris: As this is one of those “border-line” topics that may lead to discussion of activators/cracks, Arris suggested that I close this topic.

Hope I am not going to be out of Rules for asking about this method:

It’s nice to see that you are cautious about following the rules, that’s great! I see no harm in asking whether this method works as long as you are not discussing it or advertising it. As it says on the McFly Method website, it says that it is for Study (Educational) Purposes only, but I’m not sure if Arris classifies this as piracy or not. As Arris seems quite busy, we may not be able to confirm that this would be classified as piracy or not (as per Arris) for several days.

I will look through my initial Moderators PM for what Arris previously told me (very brief guidelines) and I will take a look at the Staff Forum/around the forum and see if this would be classified as piracy. At this moment, the best advice I can give is to wait for Arris and do not discuss this method in case it is classified as piracy – better safe than sorry! If you want, I can lock this topic until Arris gets a chance to look at it so no one else discusses this method, should it be considered priacy.

I noticed this post and I copied some of the contents into Google and it returned with a few of the exact same posts by the same author (as per username, blueangle) – should we watch this topic in case it is a spam post? It looks legit, but the images/etc are all hosted on the same domain and the posts are identical. All of the posts were posted within the last 12 hours or so (I think).

As of now, there are 1000 topics on the forum! 😎

Also, have you thought of making a short video (and/or tutorials) to show off Windows Server 2008 [R2] Workstation a bit more? @Arris wrote:

I never thought about that but that would be nice indeed! I ‘ve seen movies on the internet which are recorded using Camtasia Studio and I think there is also a possibility to use VMWare to capture movies of the virtual machine. As you mentioned we can’t make movies with Aero (yet), but for the other tutorials it would be possible. I hope the new VMWare will be released soon, because I don’t like to change my desktop resolution to 800×600 and record an Aero movie. Would be much easier in VMWare where you have a clean installation with a small resolution by default. The Release Candidate was released some time ago so I expect the final version to be released soon.

Does the RC expire? I have Camtasia Studio (and other programs) on my laptop I can use to record and edit videos with. VMware Workstation 6.5 lets you record movies as I did about a week ago just to test it, the outcome is pretty good quality and reasonable file size (1 hour video was ~400MB .avi file)

In the meantime, if you are a student you can get a free key from DreamSpark.

Especially if you are using a VM you can test it out with nothing to worry about if something goes wrong.

Okay, so what do we do with this reported post? I moved it to the trashcan for now: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1051, I would think that it would receive some spam links in the next week or two. Did you want it moved back so we can see what the website is that they use?
