I’ve got a question (because I can use 64-bit OS first in October with my new Alienware notebook): Is it possible to install the new VirtualPC and XP Mode on Server 2008 R2? And will it run?
Thanks a lot.
Apparently not: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=865, although that is the Beta of R2 and XPM so it may have changed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it still doesn’t work.

Yeah, I recognize the problem of trying old/passwords for other websites on the wrong website. 😆 I don’t save them in IE/FF anymore because of nearly all the botnet/trojan-software sends them to some scriptkiddie which abuses these credentials… 🙄
I’ve never really believed in saving passwords like when IE/FF says “Do you want
to save your password on this site?” I’d always click No. Sometimes I use the “Remember Me” features, but a lot of the time I use private browsing/InPrivate so I still have to type it anyways. /Closed.

Hi all,
I tryed to play DVD with the windows media player on Windows Server 2008 R2, but without success. I got a message that I have to install any plugins.
On my laptop with Windows 7 installed I could play it witout problems.
Do I have to install any special services? Or codecs? Thanks and Regards,

Yep, it’s running fine here. I just installed it using the default installer (wlsetup-custom.exe) which can be downloaded from http://get.live.com/. You can also install it without using that live-products installer by directly downloading the Windows Live Messenger msi from download.microsoft.com. If installing doesn’t work for some reason, right click the installer (Messenger.msi / wlsetup-custom.exe) and choose Troubleshoot compatibility whereafter you follow the wizard.
After installing I only had one issue: it refused to minimize to the system tray. To solve this run the application (msnmsgr.exe) in compatibility mode Windows Vista SP2.
Good luck!

Even though this topic is about a week old, I just wanted to state that the reason WLM doesn’t go to the system tray is because Windows 7 has it set like that so R2 would have it like that, too. You have to use the same fix Arris said in Windows 7 I’ve heard.
Oh 😛 thought you meant sim city because that is what this topic is about.

I’ve played the beta and it was disappointed. The game does not have mass transit!
Rumor has it the zoning is messed up as well.
I have SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition sitting right in front of me, I find it can be fun, even on a slow & laggy computer. Mass transit as in what – buses/trains/boats/planes? Because it does have those. Beta’s aren’t always the same as the final version / expansion versions.
Zoning as in Residential/Commercial/Industrious? I haven’t found any problems with it.
24th August 2009 at 19:43 in reply to: (Resolved) Missing Capatcha on "Exceeded login amount" page #49004I use IE8, Chrome 3 and Firefox 3.5.2, but either way, the capatcha form is busted there.
Chrome has individual processes for tabs too I believe.

Might try this once I free up some more disk space 🙂
Let me know how it goes! 😎
Are you on Vista Home Premium? Your signature says XP SP3 so I’m not sure if that’s outdated.
I’m still debating between running R2 natively (partition) or in VPC, which is why I need to know. I might start in VPC and then move it to a partition.Try a theme from Microsoft’s website here just in case the default theme is corrupted: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=109286
Although I don’t personally have Windows Server 2008 [R2] installed, these are my recommendations:
- Make sure your computer supports Aero. Install Windows Vista / 7 and see if you can get it working on that Operating System.
- Download the Windows Server 2008 [R2] Evaluation Copy or try and re-download your TechNet copy.
Did you follow all steps in this tutorial? Your post is a bit unclear to me. You might have missed a step, or done them in the wrong order, which may have messed it up. You might need to download the themes in the above link in case Windows Server 2008 [R2] doesn’t have any Aero themes to start with, I don’t know.
Thanks, I will use it once I get my laptop. 🙂
