i would recomend you download a 3rd party player then as desktop experience adds more then just themes and media player too if your just after a media player
try http://www.winamp.com which is a good player i use
or you could look for VLC (video lan classic) which doesnt need codecs to run
I managed to get 2k8 to the point of it flashing this version is not genuine activate now etc etc
but i think i noticed that if you disable the liscencing service it freezes the countdown but im not sure if it does there may be more to it anyway
have a check on one of your copys but i wouldnt rely on this as it might not work
disable the liscensing service when you only have one day left to try this method but i would have everything important backed up first because disabling the liscensing service doesnt permit the use of reduce function mode it will come up saying the activation service cannont run error “random gibberish here” then will boot you off back to logon
Try installing it with the themes service disabled i had this problem once on a virtual machine
do you have any other roles or enhancments installed?
is this from a fresh install without any modification to the disc ie used Vlite on it
there wont be a way of making it compatible because its to do with the way the program has been written there has to be support built into the software to make it work on server 2008 so i guess even thouhg you dont like it youl have to use server 2
go into control panel and try using add legacy hardware it will show any errors if there are files missing from server 2k8 that are required for your hardware
Maybe Things like this could go into a trusted private users thread that only registered and approved users can view kinda like for people who alway help around etc
could be used for private discussion among higher members for ironing out purposes before certain information is made public to normal members and guests
no probs, and the activation its a case of the function to disable it is built into the software and there providing the media as a free download so theres nothing they can really do since it isnt as though i have hacked or altered the software merely disabled something that is open to doing so
but no biggie can pull it if needs be if he wouldnt like to take the chance
there are multiple paths that windows stores its version information in one is
HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion
which you have stated and another is

when editing the .msi go to the Launch condition section of orca
at this point there usually are quite a few different entries in reference to older version and different products, some checking if a product is already installed leave these and delete an entry that is similar to this this entry:
((MsiNTProductType <> 3 AND MsiNTProductType <> 2) OR (MsiNTProductType = 3 AND SRVA = “1”) OR (MsiNTProductType =2 AND SRVA = “1”)) AND VersionNT64=””
look for one with “NT,NT5 etc…” in its name it usually is the one which is the os dependancy restriction
Vmware version 1.0.5 doesnt have support for server 2008 as host and only limited support for guest functions
you need to download the version 2.0 (beta) to use it on a 2k8 machine and to get full 2k8 guest support
i think even vmware workstation 6 only has experimental support for 2k8 might be why i get bad performance on my xp host for it but still it more responsive then vista which is kinda funny since 2k8 is being crippled by lack of guest support lol
Try checking the DMA setting in hardware manager for the channel that the cd rom is running on as it could be set to PIO by mistake you need to set it to udma on the drop down list
it will be slower when installing as has to pull more files at once but copyign single files is fast as only single files are read
i think he means you need SP1 for ms money to be able to run it
you can do something known as an integrated install if you can download the redistributable file
not sure on the installer switch but i know it can be done and there are tutorials on the web in reference
look for office service pack integration
server 2008 doesnt contain the hardware compatability for tv cards you have to add it yourself by adding certain files from vista
you only know this because you get the error coming up to which files are needed if you use the ADD legacy hardware method
to get tv tuners working copy these files from vista into system folder then register them in run
regsvr32 /s Mpeg2Data.ax
regsvr32 /s mpg2splt.ax
regsvr32 /s kstvtune.ax
regsvr32 /s MSDvbNP.ax
regsvr32 /s MSNP.ax
regsvr32 /s VBICodec.ax
regsvr32 /s vbisurf.ax
