Same happens here, I think that the younger generation “have it in our blood” — that or our parents just don’t understand it.

I’ve tried Damn Small Linux and Puppy Linux but I didn’t really like them (slow comp with VMs 😆 ) But I may get some sort of *ubuntu “just for fun”

I just send MS my suggestions via their blogs. But I think R2 has a feedback link in the “Initial Config” screen.

Back in from (end of)2004/(start of) 2005 – end of November 2008 I was on Dial-up. That was also about the time when FF was version 2 was around. I hated 3 when it came out, mainly because of the new UI. I can say one thing about dial-up, you have lots of time to get a snack while waiting for something 😉

Personally, I like Firefox 3.6a1pre “Minefield” which when I used it a few months ago was basically Firefox 3.5. I just had to download Shockwave because Flash didn’t work.

Why only in VM?? Not ready for the commitment? I’m not ready for R2 ether. Using R1 but loving it. I don’t want to switch codebases too much. I wanna stay at vista for development purposes and also There are some removed features that irk me:

I just don’t have much time at the moment to use it full time so I put it in a VM to play around with for now. Maybe by the time the trial expires I may move it (then again, I’ll have Windows 7 installed too), so I’ll have to triple-boot if I want to keep Vista.

The number of combined taskbar windows is not calculated and shown next to the combined buttons.-WHY????????!!!!!

Milestone 2 did.. not very useful anymore. 😕

Windows Media Player’s taskbar-integrated Mini-player (replaced with the new Jump list feature)-jumplist is inferior to miniplayer!!

I haven’t tested out WMP yet. and my VM reverted to the first boot snapshot so I have to re-enable the Desktop Experience 🙄

    @RemixedCat wrote:

Also it’s a pain to get to the EQ location in WMP12. I will write a guide on how to get WMP11 back onto R2. I prefer that player much better. The new WMP12 seems babied down for the home theater buff people who want it dumbed down like a tv. ewww.

    I like WMP 10 😆
But I still prefer iTunes because it has all my music in it.

( had to post this seperatly becuase the typing window jumps around after you put too much in it for some reason)

Strange, I’ve made [localurl=viewtopic.php?f=21&t=969:kva5nerm]longer posts[/localurl:kva5nerm] than that and it didn’t bother me, I just split the posts so I could make a table of contents because I don’t know if the [anchor] tags work on these forums, although Arris had to fix the table of contents because it wouldn’t let me use the [localurl] tags twice like I had tried.

Maybe I will once I need to answer 20 posts on this forum, 10 on another, and then watch some videos in 3 more and yeah.. I’ll try. Do older versions of FF use more memory by any chance? 😉

    in reply to: Mouse #49531

Yeah I did, I just haven’t had much time to play around with it.

flashblock is nice because if you go to a site that has it but you dont need it you don’t need to bog your computer down with it. you can click to restore the flash content you want.

I also use a HOSTS file to block malicious sites and content.

I did this to my IE8 so it blocks Advertisements and keeps legit flash objects.

120MB FF usage… ha! Nothing compared to mine. I had 20 tabs on 5 windows (property hunting) each window was a city I was looking in on several realty sites. and I approached 1.5GB!!

Also I maxxed out my tabs at 50 (3 windows)becuase I was powersearching for parts for 10 computers and also casual surfing and looking for a GPS unit and usage was at 1.8GB!!

This was on my old computer which only had 256mb of ram so I couldn’t really get it too high, I have had loads of tabs though.

in reply to: Windows 7 Enterprise Trial #49549

Windows 7 Enterprise Trial Copies CANNOT be converted to a consumer copy due to it is a volume licensing version. If it was a Professional eval copy (not released yet, I think), you could enter a Windows 7 Professional Key to continue using that copy.

I heard this on the Windows Weekly podcast today. It’s in the first 30 minutes or so if you wanted to give it a listen.

I’ve never experienced anything wrong with Chrome, it’s just light-weight and lacks a RSS reader (as of v2 beta anyways)

    IE8 FTW!!!!

Google Chrome has individual processes, possibly Opera, but no one uses that 😉 I like IE7 because switching tabs is a lot smoother, but there is no IE7 in R2… I’m on Vista so I can use IE7, but IE7 is all one process, so that could be a problem. Ethier way, IE isn’t as much as a memory hog as FF is. I currently have: Win2008workstation.com/forum [this page], another page from the r2 site (tables), Hotmail, Bing and YouTube and IE is using less than 50MB. Firefox would be using 120MB with these tabs.

p.p.s. help me please! MS Flight simulator X crashes on Win2008R2 after about 5-10 minutes

Make a topic in the [localurl=viewforum.php?f=24:prpqgx5k]Applications Forum[/localurl:prpqgx5k] with more information such as: Error messages, Operating System/Editions, Processor, Ram, Graphics and things like that so other people will see your post and be able to help you.

I’m currently installing R2 eval in VirtualBox. I’ll take a look at that tweaking program later.

    in reply to: Mouse #49528

I have 200MB left of the download so I’ll take a look at it once it finishes and I install R2.

in reply to: General Conversation #49102

So at this time, I am at 62% (1.75GB/2.79GB). After I finish the download, I will get VirtualBox (I tried looking for a “beta” version of VMWare because they give you a key, but I couldn’t find anything… reminds me of Kaspersky’s way of Beta testing their products — if I read VMWare and Kaspersky’s beta information correctly.)

I read that the developers of VirtualBox (Sun) are trying to make Aero work in it, but I don’t know if they finished yet.. I will find out and try the Remote Desktop Connection “trick” with VirtualBox whenever this finishes.

oh btw, I was going to add a “user rank faq” to the ‘rules’ topic, but I noticed that a couple of users, such as ([localurl=memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=69:3bc5pukr]Triel[/localurl:3bc5pukr], have a rank that says “Win2008Workstation Expert” and I was wondering what I should put for the description. Here is what I have so far, you can re-word it if you wish. I also noticed that moderators have no rank title to identify them besides the fact that their usernames are green, so I just wrote “Moderator” but that can be changed to “Global Moderator”, “Forum Moderator” or whatever you want.

Site Admin – these users have full access and control over the forums & website, via the use of the Admin Control Panel. Admins can delete users as well as ban them. They can also modify any users signature, avatar or profile.
Moderator – these users are able to un/lock, move, merge, split, edit, delete, sticky (and more) topics and posts to help keep the forums under control. They have access to the Moderators Control Panel which helps them do their job much easier. They can warn/ban users when appropriate. If you have been unfairly warned or banned, contact an Admin. Please contact the moderator first to see why they have warned you or banned you. Moderators have access to a “Staff Only” forum that lets them discuss issues and other things with the rest of the staff. Depending on the moderator, they may also have limited access in updating the main sites – http://win2008workstation.com and http://win2008r2workstation.com.
Win2008Workstation Expert – These users are people that have good knowledge about the internals of the Windows Operating System and are helping a lot of people in the Win2008[R2]Workstation Community.
Registered User – these users make up the majority of the site. They can create topics, post and delete their own posts, view attachments, have a signature and avatar.
[Bot], [Spider], [Tracker] – these are robots that index pages on the site for search engines and ranking sites. They cannot post.
Guest – these are unregistered users. They can do no more than view topics.

For a full list of registered users, click [localurl=memberlist.php:3bc5pukr]here[/localurl:3bc5pukr].
For a full list of staff members and how to contact them, click [localurl=memberlist.php?mode=leaders:3bc5pukr]here[/localurl:3bc5pukr].

..and with that, I am at 90% and 250mb (~20 min) left to go! Then I can truely appreciate all the work you’ve done on the manual. 😎 and of course, help out with other people’s problems! 😉

    Download complete! 😀

    @Arris wrote:

Oh yes, you are totally right about that! The only virtualization software Microsoft offers which supports x64 clients is Hyper-V. I never used VirtualBox but heard good reaction about that software.

    Can’t use Hyper-V on Vista / 32-bit right?

    I’m at 37% (~1.04GB) now.

How long does installation typically take?

in reply to: General Conversation #49098

If I remember correctly, Virtual PC only supports 32-bit guests. I’ve used VirtualBox before and it supports 64-bit guests so I may have to use that if Virtual PC won’t allow 64-bit guests like Win 2k8 Server R2. Or does the new version of VPC support 64-bit guests?

The Download Manager says I have 4 connections, what does that mean?
