      finally some good news !

i restored an old system-image, used the converter-GUI, imported the readyboost reg-file.
      and i got a readyboost-tab under properties !
so there is obviously nothing wrong with those sripts and reg-files….

right now i´m restoring the same image once again, then i´m going to do the superfetch-conversion manually, exactly the same way i did it previously.
it´s going to be VERY intertesting to see what actually happens then ….

      i´ll be back…

        hi !

        you got my PM´s ?
hmmm, last time i checked they were still in my outbox…

well, actually i haven´t used the GUI at all, i have done all conversions manually.
i cant use a GUI, i have to live up to my reputation as a world famous hacker… 😉

but when readyboost didn´t work (NO tab), then i made a backup-image with macrium reflect.
i then restored my previous backup (without superfetch), i then tried the GUI + the readyboost reg-file.

but results are the same, no Readyboost-tab under properties….

but i have several backup-images to play with, from both before and after conversion, so i´m going to go back to the oldest backup which is just a fresh installed R2, and try again.

        i have 3 O/S in my laptop (W7-64, W7-32, WS2008-R2) so it´s no problem to switch (restore) images….

          hi !

my SD-card is used for readyboost in W7, so there is no problem with the card.
i have also tried a USB-stick that i know also works in W7.
but there is no redyboost-tab when i right-click on the disk and check properties.

what difference is there between the superfetch reg-file in the GUI-converter and the readyboost reg-file that you mentioned ?

i can´t see any difference, but i might have missed something.
anyway, i have already tried that reg-file and there is no change, still no readyboost-tab.

what else needs to be done ?

          any other reg-hacks ?

i copied this from the other thread:

Here’s a list of features and roles I have installed via Server Manager:

          Features

          .NET Framework

          Windows Server Backup
          Wireless LAN

          Roles

          File Services
          + Windows Search Service

i have NOT installed Windows Server Backup & Windows Search Service, but all the rest.

i just got an idea: currently i´m using a generic driver for the cardreader, perhaps the OEM-driver is needed ?
          but that dosn´t explain why an USB-stick doesn´t work…

i just tried to import the readyboost reg-file again, now i get an errormessage: “cannot import…some files are used by the system…”

that has not happened before, previously i got an OK: “import succeded…”

i also need help with AVAST 6, i have posted in the thread about security-software: http://www.win2008workstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=965

and btw. PLEASE emtpy your inbox !
since you haven´t answered in the thread, i have sent 2 PM´s to you but they are still in my outbox, so i suspect your inbox is full…

i posted in this thread, and i have also sent a PM to you in December but it´s still in my outbox, could it be that your inbox is full ?

you wrote: “Here is my video tutorial on how to install AVAST! Free on Windows Server, with working updates.”

when i try to view that video i get a strange errormessage: “This video contains content from WMG and SME.
It is not available in your country”

            ???

could you please post written instructions on how to install AVAST ?
or perhaps fix the video ?

please, i need info on how to fix it.

AVAST 6 installs using “Deny rights on ProductOptions-folder”.
              but, it doesn´t update.

              Security Software Compatibility List:

“Got Avast 5 working on R2, with updates and all, by changing the three avast services to log on as a local account (as opposed to the “Local System” account). To do this, create a new account, make it a member of “Administrators”, do Scimitar’s “Deny Read” registry hack against the new account, temporarily disable the Avast! self-defense module (in settingstroubleshooting within the Avast GUI), open server manager and assign the new account to all three avast services, restart the services, re-enable self-defense, enjoy.”

              which 3 AVAST-services is that ?
              “open server-manager” ?
where in server-manager can that be changed ?
              i suspect it´s in SERVICES, not server-manager ?

                The “readyboost fix” is here

The patch requires more than what is really needed to run Readyboost. All you need is to import Superfetch.reg and readyboost.reg. But first you must have Superfetch role installed from R2 CONV GUI. That’s all. If Readyboost doesn’t pick up your drive as a capable readyboost device keep rescanning until it does.

                thanks for answering.
but, i have already read ALL those posts, and i can´t find any info about how to fix “the missing readyboost-tab”.
superfetch is working, i have already tried that readyboost reg-file, but nothing happens, still no “READYBOOST-TAB”.
so how do i scan my drive when there is no “READYBOOST-TAB” ?

btw, those links for superfetch & readyboost reg-files go to multiupload.com…. 😉
have you perhaps heard the news ?…

a-squared (a2), now renamed to EAM, from Emsisoft works.
                              Online Armor-premium works.
both EAM & OA: normal installation, no problems detected during install / use.

add as what, a string without value ?

You need to edit the existing entry LocalSystemNetworkRestricted which is not a string entry but a multistring. When you open it it will look like a textbox which can take multiple lines like Notepad. All the existing entries are other serives so don’t make a mistake and delete some of the texrt! Scroll to the end of the value and type EMDMgmt and OK it. Here’s a screenshot –

                                [attachment=0:wzqaxzqx]EMDMgmt_REG_MULTI_SZ.png[/attachment:wzqaxzqx]

Note that I did that grab on Windows 7 so the existing services are probably different to 2K8, but hopefully you can see what I mean by the example of adding the service.

                                THANKS !

                                your screenshots really helped.
my mistake was that i went “one level” too deep, i opened svchost & right-clicked on “LocalSystemNetworkRestricted”, and added a string.

now i have learned how to edit multistrings…

                                Readyboost is working now.

is this the only thread about readyboost in WS2008 ?
