Hello,
Anyone try to get Halo2 working? It gets as far as running the light beam over the H in halo when starting and then it crashes.

Hey Boe,
Because you get the exception code c0000005 I guess you haven’t followed the Disable Data Execution Prevention tutorial. After you disabled DEP, Halo 2 should work fine! 😉

You are correct but unfortunately that doesn’t resolve the issue.
I did follow the tutorial – rebooted and it still crashes while it runs the light beam over the H as the game just begins to load – about 10 seconds after clicking on the shortcut –

UPDATE/EDIT –
Whoops – I just thought for the heck of it I’d try manually selecting DEP for HALO2.exe – says I can’t turn it off for HALO2 – sounds like I need a registry hack.

I am trying th XP installer 0.3 right now. I’ll report back if it works or not!
EDIT: No it does not work!

Do not disable DEP completely – sometimes this is even worse than having it on.Just select DEP for essential windows programs and services only.
If you already disabled DEP completely, you need to enable it again first. - 23rd July 2008 at 08:58 #46083
Hm now I can start Halo 2 but I can’t use Live or Network sub menus, they are grayed out. Any ideas?
PS: I have a valid key and Live Account and it is logged into Live correctly. - 27th August 2008 at 22:08 #46084
I used this method and managed to install halo 2 vista on server 2008 and even got it to work online.
1) Insert the Halo 2 DVD
2) Run Startup.exe on the Halo 2 DVD
3) Install the game
4) Install XLiveRedist1.0.6027.msi and vcredist.msi from the redists dir on the Halo 2 DVD.
5) Copy xinput9_1_0.dll to system32 for the game to work.
