Hi,
While Avast! Home Edition 4.8 installs and functions successfully in Windows Server 2003 / 2008 / 2008 R2 using the workaround provided by Scimatar, the newly released Avast! Free Edition 5 does not.
Avast! Free Edition 5 installs successfully in Windows 2008 R2, but it’s unable to update the definitions successfully because it’s use on Windows Server operating systems (and in a commercial environment) is not supported – as stated by an error message.
I’m using Windows Server 2008 R2 at home for non commercial purposes. Does anyone know of a workaround to getting Avast! Free Edition 5 to update successfully?

I would also like to see if this can be fixed.
I tried using process monitor, but nothing useful came up for me.

I had the same problem on Windows Server 2008,but i found a newer version which works fine when update.avast 5.0.462.
Seems the producer has fixed the issue, there are many servers on Win.
