      R2 “$OEM$ FOLDER” PROJECT – v1.1 !

      aka “The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse Project”

      Thank you to :

      * Asciiwolf for W7 Packs for R2 😉

      * NAOS for extra tweaks and fixes 😉

      * Muldercs for our Sig 😉

      Changelog 29/08/2011 :

      * Updated Software
      * Updated W7PacksR2 with some fixes (TY Ascii 🙂 )
      * Changed Logon Wallpaper
      * Fixed some new registry entries, ……

      What’s all this about ?

      We decided to create a $OEM$ folder that will install all necessary packs to get Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation OS.

      Till now the only way to do this was either to “sysprep” the release or use RT Server Customization Tool from Ben, involving lots of manipulations and maybe some errors if you are not acquainted with Windows Imaging and Deployment Techniques.

      After lots of testing (almost 80 VM tests on all R2 Editions in 1 month) the $OEM$ Folder was ready.

      It’s just a single folder that you add to your regular Windows Server 2008 R2 untouched from M$.

      Basically you can now make your own R2 Workstation release !!!!! 😉 😆

      How does it work ?

      It’s a series of scripts that enable features and custom your R2 to a W7 Look OS.

      Works on all R2 Editions : Foundation, Standard, Enterprise, Data Center and Web Server.

      What’s required ?

      1/ Regular R2 release from M$

      2/ A program to edit iso files to add $OEM$ folder into “SOURCES” in iso file

      3/ A VM or a PC

      4/ A bit of extra time on install as VM or PC will reboot 3 times before it’s fully operational

      5/ You only need to enter a password (no complexity required) or not

      What’s in it ?

      Mods :

      -> Added W7 Boot Screen
      -> Added W7 Custom Logons Screens
      -> Added W7 Themes from W7 Pro
      -> Added Extra M$ Themes

      -> Enabled Desktop Experience
      -> Enabled Themes
      -> Enabled Dreamscene
      -> Enabled Audio
      -> Enabled Wireless Networking
      -> Enabled Server Backup

      -> Disabled IE Enhanced Security Configuration
      -> Disabled Complex Password
      -> Disabled Password Expiration
      -> Disabled CTRL+ALT+DEL at Startup
      -> Disabled Shutdown Event Tracker

      -> Uxtheme has been patched

      -> Added msmpeg2enc.dll, msmpeg2vdec.dll and msmpeg2adec.dll for WMP11

      Some extra information :

      I would like to add that this project is not static and that all scripts can be edited.

      I just would like to point out that you need though to respect the order the way is was built.

      1/ setupcomplete (install M$ stuff, adds main Registry tweaks and disables GPO)

      2/ runonce (runs DISM to add R2 features and installs W7 packs for R2)

      3/ cmd file in R2 startup (installs apps and does some fine tweaking)

      By changing the execution order some features or applications may not install correctly !

      At your own risk.

      We are currently working on GUI for this instead of CMD Windows. I’ll update the topic when done.

        We de not plan to add SuperFetch to $OEM$ FOLDER PORJECT for the moment.

        SuperFetch is some extra tweaking and not vital to R2 Workstation. 😉

        I will await more feedback on it.

        TY for asking. 😉

        As you wrote: “19/01/2011 -> UPDATING PACKS WITH ASCII’S SP1 PACKS !!!!” I would like to ask if you know when we can expect to see this? I guess you ware busy testing it etc. but would be nice to know if you think you will finish soon or if it takes longer time.

        Greetings

        awesome work guys, flawless!!!

        is there an $OEM$ project for X86 based systems?

        here is my small contribution to the knowledge base
        Eset NOD32 2.70.39 running on 2008 R2 with no issues

      • #51454

        Glad that it works and you like it !

        Now this Project is only for R2 and only x64 !

        We did not port the project for Server 2008 SP2 that exists in x86 and x64, if that was the question.

        I did make test $OEM$ Folder for Server 2008 SP2 but project is discontinued.

        Regards,

        N & Team 😎

        are you able to share the test $OEM$ for x86?

        TIA

        Hi !

        I don’t really see for which OS you want to use it ? W7 ? Serv08 SP2 ?

        I need more information, since I did not continue working on it !

        TY.

        Thank you ExpertUser
        yes, i was looking to do the same $OEM$ folder implementation for 2008 SP2 Ent x86
        i loved this concept so much; i am looking to run this on my laptop, but its only 32-bit

        personally, until now i kept away from Vista & W7; but this is another story

        I’ve ran Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 32-bit on my laptop for the past two years on only 1024MB of RAM just fine. Server 2008 32-bit gets my…

        I would like to say 1GB would be the minimum amount of RAM you’d want to run 2008 on without any disk thrashing issues or simple multitasking. Just recently I formatted my laptop and made Backtrack 4 my primary operating system for penetration testing needs. I am studying for Information Systems Security and I felt it was necessary on my behalf to learn Backtrack 4 Linux as its a very powerful tool. Nothing against Microsoft it is my preferred day-to-day OS but this Backtrack OS just blows Microsoft out of the water. I cannot tell you how many exploits I have discovered in IE and Windows Explorer alone that allow me root access to Windows systems using a utility called Metasploit. I have been able to hack WEP-encrypted wireless networks with ease while WPA2 is a bit trickier though I have been able to succeed once with somebody who had a weak password (it was 1234567890) hahaha. I was like NO WAY..what idiots haha

        We are working on the version for Serv08 SP2 x86 and x64.

        It’s taking a bit of time since I am a bit busy at work at the moment and I have few days off lately.

        We’ll get soon a working version out.

        I updated current existing R2 folders as it’s a bit easier since basically project is fully working already, whether for Serv08 SP2 it needs some extra work on it.

        I am confident.

        Regards,

        I assume Multiupload is down but I assume you wanted to download R2Conv3.

        This project you use in a 2008 R2 install DVD.

        I’ll fix the links.
