I know this is a rather old topic, but I may be able to help. I have Shift running without any problems on R2. In fact, I just reinstalled it the other day.

I have two questions for you –
    1. What video card do you have and what version driver for it? My R2 computer is now my HTPC computer with an ATI HD6450 video card. I had problems with Shift continuously crashing while starting. I discovered that it had to do with some of Catalyst software. I uninstalled ALL Catalyst software and installed ONLY the video card driver. I have had no problems since.

    2. What error code are you receiving?

As a side note, I used to have an nVidia GTX 260 video card in this machine and had no problems at all.

It seems that the new games featuring games for windows live do not work, like Fable 3 and Dirt 3. Is there a workaround?
Although the redist package installs fine the game doesn’t recognize the installation of G4WL and wont start at all 😳 (tried with Fable 3).

    Game: Dirt 3
    Compatible?: Yes
Issues: Game crashes before race, DSS fails to launch (Appcrash)
Fix: Change audio setting from Rapture3D to software. Must disable SEHOP –

    Disable SEHOP:

    run regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession Managerkernel
    remove DisableExceptionChainValidation and DistributeTimers

Notes: Found out about the Rapture audio crash issue on another forum. I’m not sure if it’s specifically related to Realtek sound or if it’s global. Not sure if DEP must be off or not. I disabled it long ago, so I don’t know if having it on would make a difference. I had no problem installing Dirt 3 or any problems with GFWL. But I use an offline profile.

Thanks to Allukend for the SEHOP fix. He also claims it works for Fable 3. Don’t have Fable 3, so I can’t test. I started a separate thread for Dirt 3 – Dirt 3 thread

Game is crashing to desktop upon loading a race.

DISCLAIMER: I will not be held liable, or responsible, for you mucking up your computer by editing the registry. By doing this, you do so at your own risk. Always backup your registry before making changes.

Good news, The cause of bug is SEHOP (Structured Exception Handling Overwrite Protection) that is enabled in Windows Server 2008 R2

I think that SEHOP is cause of bug Dirt 3 and witcher 2, need test.

YOU ARE A GOD! I have been fighting for 3 days to get Dirt 3 to run on 2008 R2. This is EXACTLY what was causing DSS failure to launch!

CONFIRMED TO FIX DSS LAUNCH FAILURE FOR DIRT 3. BUT….game crashing to desktop upon race loading. Taking this to my Dirt 3 thread.

It seems Avira released new version, and changed the name a bit, to Avira Free Antivirus 2012. I didn’t manage to upgrade existing version to new one, I got the message “An installation on server system of this product is not possible. The setup will be cancelled.“. Did anyone manage to install new version on Server Windows? Any tips?

    IgorHW,

    Follow my video tutorial below:

List of software packages you will need to complete this task:

    Application Verifier: DOWNLOAD

    WinRAR 64-bit for R2: DOWNLOAD

Thanks for this. I received a “mfc100u.dll is missing” error message when installing. In case anyone else runs into this, in order to fix this C++ 2010 x86 must be installed.
    C++ 2010 x86 download
