Well, i’m using 2k8r2 64 for almost a year, and it works wonderfully. i just had installed the boot optimizer yet, because i’m just a little afraid for its degradation upon time, as vista did.
i’m actually experiencing a boot time with a little more than 1 minute. After bios and o.s. choice (dual boot with xp) i see only two “charges” of the loading bar, then a black screen for some seconds. after that i enter my logon and some other seconds.
my pc concludes entirely the boot up sequence in 4 minutes, including all services and 3rd party apps, and it’s useful far before that. but i think it could get better than this.
i was looking inside task scheduler, and it has a lot of calls, most part of then are unactive, like the gadget related itens.
my question: is safe delete those entries that would never be used, like we can do with services? well, we dont delete services, but i think this would be the most accurate analogy to task scheduler entries.
sorry for my awful englsh speech, and thanks for the forum and the site!
hi!
well, last time i tried those drivers, them worked very well.
but – for a bug in .net framework 4 and gfwl – i had to format my pc. then after a clean install, i tried to install the catalyst. for my surprise, ccc dont start.
this time, i dont have .net framework 4. is this required for ccc?
didnt tested all features yet, but seems fully working on r2!
thanks!can you upload a modded file, please? i tried, actually installed all other apps of the package using orca, except this one…
just wondering… what is the better way to take ownership of a registry key? maybe this is the problem. tried to take ownership (in registry key, right click> permissions> permissions and owner tab, certify to give that user all permissions, doing it twice or thrice to propagate credentials and stuff…) but the programs still had no access to that registry…..
hi, i tried those ways, but:
1 – event viewer shows nothing useful;
2 – sysinternals shows a lot of data, but i could not understand all. some results appears like:
name not found
name collision
file locked with writers
file locked with only readers
but, in properties, those itens are equal all others in my point of view. none specific error message explicited into them.3 – log shows some human phrases, some of more relevant are below:

googled the 1603 error, it seems to be a generic error code due to lack of privileges. i cant find the msi installers.
i noticed that the problem affects gfwl and .net framework, not visual c++ redist. if i remember well, gfwl required .net framework, and installed it before.
… maybe this all has something with those ccleaner and mv regclean… will never use it anymore, just in case.
i tried that revo uninstaller too. it didnt change nothing, same registry error. is there an alternative to format&reinstall?
(sorry for the long log too)the app which allows fan and clock control is working using this method?

1. This is the 11.4c hotfix. Recently a leaked released 8.85 betas.
2. Which card are you using and your system spec? It could a bug since this is RC release, it hard to say.
ok, i think the driver itself its not a big deal, but for me, gpu control is. the only issue is that all apps are working on r2, except gpu overdrive.
specs:
phenom x4 955
xfx hd 5670 512mb
4gb ram
asus m4a77t usb (chipset amd)
win2008r2 64, fully updatedany tips, i’m ready to try!
using that method above, did you guys got the gpu overdrive app working? (that one which controls gpu clock, fan, etc)
its the main reason to install all suite, instead using the windows device manager.
7th May 2011 at 02:47 in reply to: Catalyst 11.4a Hotfix 8.84.9RC2 Apr27 Server 2008 R2 Ready #51805hi!
let me ask… i installed your version of catalyst, ok, but there are 2 issues:
1 – is the driver version older than the other from amd without rc? this one is 8.840.9, the other one i had was 8.841.0
2 – for me, the main app is the catalyst, to control vga fan and clock. is there some way to get them installed? i think the error at the end of setup is from that app.
hi!
well, that works for a app from the mobo manufacturer, tks! the other setup.exe files still refuse to work, but i could install the drivers from windows, searching the disc from device manager. only one i still not find is catalyst, but as i can see, this is a hard one.
anyway, its a good idea always test new device drivers, or just let it working and quiet? i dont know if this can affect the windows installation, or if server editions are more stable to do that kind of changes often.
thanks, i got some first impressions of system (not so deep although):
boot slower than xp and 7 (maybe effect of ausence of prefetch/superfetch, i followed the tutorial but after the register tweak, the service related doesnt appears);
shutdown super fast;
pc is responsible, but i think needs a fine tune yet;
all device drivers ok, including video card, but no catalyst.
well, i need to take a seat and read all forum, a base for comparation for my system. anyway, this is the best 2008 workstation information source i could find (dont speak english, but all is well explained), keep up the good work!
