well I have had no luck with the card. A friend had a nvidia card spare so i swapped it for that, plugged my monitor in, fired the computer up and the card worked perfectly. It disabled the on-board card automatically, downloaded and installed the driver for it so could change its setting and it works perfectly!
Alright thanks for that. I have roped in some help from a friend that has a much better understanding then me. should have it fixed soon.
i think the problem may be with the pcie card slots not being enabled or something like that.
hi floppy
well my problem is that my ati radeon hd 5450 is not in the device manager list under display adapters at all, its like its not plugged in, although it is of course (its fan spins) and i have removed it and reinserted it.
when i followed your instructions, i got to the end, rebooted when it said, and then nothing nothing was installed, and nothing happened and the device is still not listed in the manager
i really do want to keep this card but its starting to look unlikely π

Hi
Here is an updated instruction….Download and extract the latest ATI Catalyst suit.
Open WinDdg as admin, select Open Executable, select InstallManagerApp.exe in the Bin64 folder, say no to the question about saving workspace.
Write this into the command line and hit enter: bp ntdll!RtlGetNtProductType “as /x ReturnValue rcx; gu; ed ReturnValue 1; g”
Write g on the command line and hit enter to resume the installer.
The installer will start β focus itβs window and finish the installation.Done!
Reboot, then you will have the issue with manual update the dispaly driver…
Ok, I have managed to do everything else but what does this mean? my graphics card does not show in the device manager list, under display adapters, i have only standard vga adapter listed which a believe is the default one on the motherboard.
is this normal? should i give up with this ati card and go for a nvidia? π
thanks.
thanks for that!
i think it will go for 64 bit
im still a little in the dark about the difference between r2 and just 2008. π what are the pros and cons of each? (im aware this may start a large debate, so feel free to direct me to websites if you wish!)
OK, in that case i think i will have a look into getting r2 instead, i hope it works ok but i guess ill have to try and if all else fails fall back on 2008 standard.
if half is used at idle then more ram would help things when your working
i see, i know of a computer with a dvd burner, so i need to install that burning software on it, download the OS from dreamspark, burn it to the disc. fire up new PC, throw the disc in with product key ready for when it asks.
As far as the 32/64 bit does it prompt during installation which one you want?
thanks
Thanks for that, thats cleared up some issues.
With the installation I was thinking in terms of how do I load windows onto the other computer which currently has no OS. like do i download it on this one, make a note of the key, put it on an external hard drive, plug the hard drive into the new computer, and install it onto the computers own hard drive (i dont know how to do that, but we will have to come on to that later π³ )
based on what you said I think I will go for just server 2008 standard first. is that a good choice? though it now looks like i posted in the wrong section π³
in terms of 32 bit vs 64 bit. Do I need to download a specific 64 bit version or do I just need sever 2008 standard and then it asks we which one I want to install?
On balance i think i will try for 64 bit version on the account that I will be running 8 gb of ram and a 1TB hard drive, amongst orther reasons.
Thanks again for the feedback, i would be stuck other wise!.
