Hyper-V causes too many problems, wonder if the R2 one works any better.

thank you, I had to do the gameux.dll manually cause the installer said the module “WindowsSystem32gameux.dll” and “WindowsSysWOW64gameux.dll” failed to load tho.

Just follow the main guide of win2008workstation.com, step 10 about themes/aero should bring the most win7 looking experience I guess.

Server 2008 r2 can be a lot better but it depends mostly on what you’re gonna use it for. Server 2008 r2 has a lot more features compared to win7 but if you dont use them win7 might be better as server OSes tend to have a little more trouble with compatibility.

I dont think at the moment it’s possible, I’ve been using eboostr to work as my readyboost since server 2003 days myself so I’m not completely sure tho.

possible, shame but oh well at least the thumbnails are very fast compared to the old vista/2008 ones.

It doesnt work launching or installing? try going into your services and starting the “windows installer/management instrumentation/modules installer” services or setting them to manual/auto, at least the management instrumentation should do it if it is what i think.

dont see why gameux.dll wouldnt work, at least the game I know that asked for it works normally, the games explorer is another story… it installed and the links got there but they wouldnt execute and after a while only a empty folder that says “x items” is what was left…

Thanks for a great tool. Does 1.2 work on R2?

most of it does, there’s some things that wont, in my case the “enable themes service” didnt work until the desktop experience was installed and the UxTheme patch didnt work either, also the “game controller option in control panel” does install however I cant see it in control panel but it is still available.

Never tried the sidebar option myself so i cant help you there.

Does anyone know how to disable the “Taskbar Thumbnails Preview” feature when using Aero in 2008 R2? the ways i’ve seen dont seem to work in win2008 r2 as they would in Windows 7, it also doesnt appear in the “Taskbar and Start Menu properties” and changing the “Turn off taskbar preview” in gpedit.msc doesnt do a thing.

in reply to: Server 2008 Service Pack 2 ? #47531

I meant 2008 SP2 vs 2008 SP1, but nevermind that now 3 reboots later performance was back to what it was before.

    that worked for my uxtheme

SP2 installation seems to reset the activation remaining time, not sure if it resets the rearms as well since mine hadnt reach there yet. Would be interesting to find out if reinstalling SP2 over the already patched SP2 would reset it again.

Seem to be having a small loss of gaming performance with this.

in reply to: Audio issue #48470

In my case with my SB Audigy value the only thing that made that stutter stop was using the Aero interface. This happened to me in vista too however and may be unrelated to your problem (specially if you are using aero already), but cant hurt to try.

in reply to: very slow startup #48462

Not really sure about this, however i’ve seen this same problem happening in vista, someone told me it might be a driver issue. My current PC takes 35secs to load desktop on server 2008 x64 and it’s a c2d e2160 (2.3GHz), 2GB ram so it’s nothing impressive really. I’d look for some software/driver that might be taking long to start maybe wifi?

Fallout 3: Didnt create group on start menu. I seem to be getting some stuttering music from the radio in, not sure if this is specific to me however i noticed when alt+tab it sounds just fine so it could be some priority thing, i do have the SystemResponsiveness key and enabled audio acceleration just like the guide. Other than that minor problem it seems to be just fine.

Mass Effect: Works great, on installation it didnt create start menu items but minor problem.
