What you are asking for is not just dangerous, but entireley unneccessary. You don’t need to run as higher than Administrator, ever, for anything. If you are actually running as the Administrator account with UAC turned off, you won’t get prompted for any authentication, and you will have full access.

If programs do not work, it is not due to a lack of access, but some other problem.

Insisting that you wish to run as higher than the Administrator account shows that you don’t have that great of an idea how Windows works, or what you are doing.

Some issues are as minor as the system will not allow me to save a database file in the program directory or make changes to the existing ones, even with “Run as Admin” used.

Then just run as the Administrator, and you will have full access, and won’t need to use run as admin.

Remember, run as admin only means the program you ran as admin wil lhave access, not anything outside of it…..

Please don’t try to start a flame war in a good thread. Saying that I don’t know what I am doing is a pretty petty statement. I would suggest you add a spellchecker to your browser or not make posts in a heated hurry.

I have tried as “YOU” have suggested and as I have stated things do not always work as expected. Some of our drives come from older windows installs and are attached to new Win 2008 server installs. These old volumes need to be re-managed so that they will function properly. My original question was all encompassing to address these problems as well as getting better access to my own files and system processes.

    Have a nice Day

    Great write up, Thanks!

Hardware Firewall, Sonicwall NSA 2400 with everything turned on.

For user name, being as I am a Domain Admin at work should I include the FQDN in the username string, eg: “USERNAME.DOMAIN.local”
I have a special GP set up for Domain Admins as well with very little restrictions, so I doubt there would be any hindrance from the GP.

At home it will be simple as I did not enable a domain there.

Some programs do not run as expected:
    Nero
    RipIt4Me
    PowerDesk Pro
    ACDSee
    Image Burn
    Hawke ChairGun Pro

Some issues are as minor as the system will not allow me to save a database file in the program directory or make changes to the existing ones, even with “Run as Admin” used. I have taken possession of these folders and been able to move along but I would like to just be able to do as I want with out needing to make these changes for random applications.

I have had to do that with a few folders. One was just so I could install a UT3 Server and be able to manage it correctly.
You cannot install such things in the default Program files or program files (x86) folders. Server, Vista and Win 7 will just not give you the correct permissions even if your account is an admin account.
There has got to be a way somewhere in the Policies or registry to give a USER, GOD access to the system.
I even added my account to act as system and that still doesn’t cover it.

Well after the upgrade I was able to play GRAWII without doing anything other than enabling sound. Not sure you will need to bother with the gameux file.

    Eset4 Nod32 Business works. Eset3 did not

Well now I have 2 machines converted from 2008 SP2 to 2008 RS. So far things look ok. Daemon Tools throws an error so I uninstalled it for now.
Sidebar was enable on the one at work, looks like the one at home did not carry it over.

Tried from a DVD image from TechNet. I figured out the problem though. I had recompressed the image after adding a text file with the CD Key in it. The installer either didn’t like that or the ISO program jacked up the image.
I downloaded a fresh copy and updated fine.

I have applied the tweaks to several machines of different hardware configs and all have worked every time.
I saw somewhere the Conversion tool works for both server releases, but I would just like to see a confirmation.

Personally i do not see an advantage to SSD drives yet.

There are several wizards and options if you open Sound in the Control Panel and right click at the devices listed in the Playback tab. Maybe you have to set them to default first or configure them using the Configure Speakers wizard. Otherwise I don’t know what the problem can be because at least one program at your pc’s plays 5.1 so the drivers etc are working well.

Pretty sure I went through all that but will give it another look.
Been using S2K8 full time for over a week now, so far the only issue has been the sound.

I got BF2 running last night. At first it would not load so I deleted the saved cache from XP and then deleted my saved profiles and it loaded up fine. Looks better for some reason but I was tired and it was past my bed time. Will update after I play online a few times.

What is now still bothering you that you still have to find a way to permanently use Windows Server 2008? 😉

Having to buy a new webcam for my security system/software. I have a wireless IP cam that I am sure will work, but I also have an old 3Com USB cam that I can not so far get to work. Most webcams these days do not have the tripod mount on the bottom so I need to either locate one that does or find one I can attach to my blinds or put a support bar in the window.

Got BF2 and AA up and running last night BTW, nice. Will install ADOBE CS2 or 3 suite when I get home from work, then try to generate a list of APPs I must have from XP.

Well replaced that bad ram and got Logitech working correctly with UberOptions and am so impressed I am trying to find a way to permanently switch to 2k8.

in reply to: Sound stutter.. #45984

Well that just flat sucks then.
I wonder if that Latency Tool floating about the net could fix it?
The tool lets you change the timing of your bus allowing one card better access than another. When I get home I will see if I can find the documentation for you.
    Ahh NM just look here.

yeah okay sorry man, thanks for trying to help,.

well i’ve found out that this stutter appears in all of my OS’s.. At first i thought it was server 2008 only..
    I dont know what’ve happened.

Did you check that the card was seated all the way in and all the plugs are bottomed out (sunk in all the way?) I had that once and it was a loose plug.

Good luck and no worries man.
