Inkball and freecell work but solitaire and a few others complain about vista emulation.dll which I’ve put in system32.
Try putting emulation.dll in C:WindowsSysWOW64
I have been out of town.
Nice job, I am just wondering if this work on both x86 and x86.

Hi All
Has anyone figured out how to get Speech Recognition to work in Windows Server 2008 yet. I tried the suggestion that i found about copying across the speech files from Vista, but i kept getting an error regarding the speech engine something or other, i forget now. Any way, has anyone had any luck or can suggest an alternative ?
Many Thanks
Well, try Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Hm just tried and you are right. After monitoring with Process Explorer I found out that wmplayer.exe was looking mf.dll before it crashes. After copying mf.dll from Windows Server 2008 including Desktop Experience to the Windows Media Player folder it turns out that if you want to execute regsvr32.exe mf.dll you also need mfplat.dll to register mf.dll succesfully, however after copying that file and registering it still crashes while looking for some WMI registry key. Try it yourself with Sysinternals Process Explorer and set as filter Process Name | is | wmplayer.exe | Include. Start monitoring just before you open some media file via the open item in the file menu!
Arris, I think you are talking about Process Monitor rather than Process Explorer.
We finally got Windows Media Center install on Windows Server 2008 but a last minute show-stopper bug emerge due to software restriction policy. If you would like to help complete the product you can download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?yje11mmbhen
1. run MCE from Vista.bat on Vista
2. copy C:MCE from vista to C:MCE in server 2008
3. run MCE to Server 2008.bat (or you can copy all files in C:MCE to C:)
4. run Media Center – Add.regIf you run Windows Media Center you will get this error: Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information contact your system administrator.
If somebody find a solution, let me know.

This is most wanted feature in Windows Server 2008 and we need all the help we can get. You can contribute here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Media-Center-on-Server-2008-t112916.html&st=20
Windows Fax and Scan is already include in Windows Server 2008. To enable Windows Fax and Scan: go to Server Manager > Add Roles > Next > check Fax Server and Print Services > Install
I have tested and it works!
Adobe Creative Suite 3 installer always have problems even on Windows XP and Windows Vista. Download and run Adobe CS3Clean Script will solve the problem.

I test it at the moment but it gave me an error when I try to add a fax account to use my build in analog modem. Any solution?
You are right, fax does not work. Go to File > New > Fax > Connect to a fax modem > Next > Account Wizard Error: An error occurred. Please try the operation later or contact your Administrator.
The scan, however work great, I can actually use my scanner now, even thought I rarely use it.
Arris, go ahead and publish the article and we can deal with the aftermath later. Many of us can benefit from it (even without fax).

Description: Use the Windows Fax and Scan application in Windows Server 2008.
Possible Solution
Can someone try to download Windows Fax and Scan.zip from 4shared and use the scanner / fax? Extract the right architecture to C:WindowsSystem32, then run C:WindowsSystem32WFS.exe. I got these files from clean installations of Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x86/x64. If it works fine I’ll add a new tutorial to the manual. Thanks for your reply! 🙂Thanks Arris, I don’t use my scanner that much, but I check it out and it work fine.

You can extract Windows Movie Maker from Vista and make it run fine under WS2008.
Just extract the files for your platform (see my post at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=218) and register the proper DLLs by running (elevated prompt):
“%programfiles%Movie MakerMOVIEMK.exe” /RegServer
regsvr32 /s “%programfiles%Movie Makerpipeline.dll”

Download Windows Movie Maker (x86) here: http://www.mediafire.com/?giynywi0zke or http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QQX1UNJU
1. Copy Movie Maker to %programfiles%.
2. Run register DLLs.bat as administrator.Sorry 64 bit users, you are on your own.
For those of you who feel left out, you can download Windows Movie Maker (x64) here: http://www.mediafire.com/?nmja5qzjgmf or http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZPBJWK71

Thank you so much for this, I have not found a suitable alternative anywhere!
I’m a little confused though, I’ve never seen this version of the snipping tool before, the Vista one I’m used to just pops up a small dialog box next to what you’ve snipped (and opens in default rectangle snip).
Is this an older version? Thanks again.
Yes, this is Snipping Tool version 2.0 that I took from Experience Pack for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. The one from Vista doesn’t work.

I just installed Windows XP Tablet PC Edition in Hyper-V but after starting the Windows XP Tablet PC Experience Pack setup or the setup you uploaded it still says that only Tablet PC versions are supported… 😕 As a workaround you can use freeware application Snippy.
OK, I finally get the Snipping Tool to work on Windows Server 2008 and it can be download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?3ed04mmxx9h
Here is a mirror for the snipping tool:
