    Hi!
    Sorry for the late respond…

    Any success with your card???

If no, have you disabled the onboard, i.e. motherboard, graphics in BIOS?

If you start the ati installer once more select the “custom” option then the installer will show you which components it will install. Is the display driver included their??

I have attached a screen dump from my installation of ATI Catalyst 10.10 so you can see which components it is supposed to install.

    Good luck!!!

“…then you will have the issue with manual update the dispaly driver…”

It is the issue described in the following topic http://www.win2008workstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1339&p=7103

Do you have the same problem or is it something else?

    Hi!
    You can follow this guide:http://apcmag.com/the_definitive_dualbooting_guide_linux_vista_and_xp_stepbystep.htm

It covers dual-boot system but it will cover your case as well because win7 and R2 will use the same boot manager, i.e. only of the partition will have an boot manager.

I have used the above guide to boot XP, R2 and Linux with the help of NeoGrub.

in reply to: Windows Server 2008 R2 Backup solution..? #51344

If you are looking for a freeware then I can suggest the following program:
    http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
It uses the same service as Windows Server Backup utility and the output can be compressed as well, what they call, in an open format.

During a total recovery the destination disk need to have the same size or larger size than the original.

in reply to: Windows Server 2008 R2 Backup solution..? #51342

    Hi!
You can use the installation disk and select the repair computer option the get access to Windows Server Backup to restore the system.
I’m not sure if Windows Server Backup utility uses compression.
The utility supports backup to another internal harddrive, external harddrive or a network storage.

I have tried the original solution on the 10.10 release and it wasn’t successful as you reported. But with the updated description, i.e. let WinDbg be active during the entire installation, it worked, at least for me…

    Hi
    Here is an updated instruction….

Download and extract the latest ATI Catalyst suit.
Open WinDdg as admin, select Open Executable, select InstallManagerApp.exe in the Bin64 folder, say no to the question about saving workspace.
Write this into the command line and hit enter: bp ntdll!RtlGetNtProductType “as /x ReturnValue rcx; gu; ed ReturnValue 1; g”
Write g on the command line and hit enter to resume the installer.
The installer will start – focus it’s window and finish the installation.

    Done!

Reboot, then you will have the issue with manual update the dispaly driver…

    I’ve got the time…

Installation time approx. half an hour

First impression: 13% longer boot time and an “Evaluation copy…” message in the lower left corner. All the tweaks I’m using are still working…

in reply to: Sleep item in start meny submenu #51288

    Hi
There is a local policy called “Change Start menu power button” where you can change the default action when pushing this button. The policy can be set to Sleep but it does not have any effect on the R2 system… I miss this option as well but my guess is that a server is not supposed to sleep… At least I have got a sleep button on my keyboard that works as intended….

    Hi
Here is a workaround that is working. The procedure is taken from the following topic:http://www.win2008workstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5786#p5786

The installer will start – focus it’s window and click Next.
Go back to WinDbg. Hit Ctrl-Break. Type the command bc * to remove the breakpoint and after that g to resume the setup. Finish installing. Done.

Reboot, then you will have the issue with manual update the dispaly driver…

Hope it will work for you as well!

The installation was smooth on my R2 machine except that you need to reboot to finish the installation

I like the GPU acceleration but it is only a matter of time before the other browser has it as well. When all browser has GPU acceleration then will the web designers take advantage of it and it will end with that you need a top-of-the-line graphic card only to surf the web…

The only problem I had so far is that it couldn’t import my firefox bookmarks direct, I needed to export them and then import them, well it is a beta…

    Hi
I think there are software restrictions via the group policy. I had the same problem but i disabled the policy regarding “CD and DVD: Deny write access” and after that regular users can use the dvd-writer.
The default setting for this policy is “Not configured” and according to its description it should allow regular users to access the DVD-writer but it didn’t work for me so I disabled it and then it work…

    Hi
If you are looking for a 3:rd party software, I can recommend DriveImage XML from Runtime Software, http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm. It is a freeware and I have used it to move my R2 system from a HW-RAID-0 setup to a singel disk setup.
