You can extract Windows Movie Maker from Vista and make it run fine under WS2008.
Just extract the files for your platform (see my post at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=218) and register the proper DLLs by running (elevated prompt):
“%programfiles%Movie MakerMOVIEMK.exe” /RegServer
regsvr32 /s “%programfiles%Movie Makerpipeline.dll”
regsvr32 /s “%programfiles%Movie Makerwmm2ae.dll”
regsvr32 /s “%programfiles%Movie Makerwmm2clip.dll”
regsvr32 /s “%programfiles%Movie Makerwmm2ext.dll”
regsvr32 /s “%programfiles%Movie Makerwmm2filt.dll”
regsvr32 /s “%programfiles%Movie Makervideomediahandler.dll”Known issues:
– Unable to integrate help content. Anyone? 🙂Enjoy!

Download Windows Movie Maker (x86) here: http://www.mediafire.com/?giynywi0zke or http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QQX1UNJU
1. Copy Movie Maker to %programfiles%.
2. Run register DLLs.bat as administrator.Sorry 64 bit users, you are on your own.

Hey, has anyone had any luck getting this to import video from a video camera? When i try to run the capture wizard it just crashes but everything else seems to work right.
Have any of you seen this or found a solution to it?

Thanks! I was trying out different programs to make dvd’s, but I really like the WMM menu options, so I’m glad to finally have this. THe problem that I have is that it I try to start up Win DVD Maker, it says that I don’t have the MPEG-2 encoder software, and in WMM when I try to drag an .avi file in, it says it needs the correct codec. I already have the divx codecs installed in my system, so I’m not sure about what to do there. On the MPEG-2 encoder, I have no idea what to do either.
any help?

Try to install one of these codec packs:
* Combined Community Codec Pack (Thanks to JonusC for mentioning)
* K-Lite Codec Pack (No need to install any of the included applications/tools, only the codecs; works fine for me)I expect that updating/installing should fix this problem.

Unless I missed something, alternatively, you can just download Movie Maker 2.6 for Vista and install into Windows 2008.
