First of all, thank you guys so much for all of the work in developing a method of converting Server 2012 R2 to a workstation environment! I am happy with running it on my gaming rig, and convinced my wife to move to it from her Win7 machine when it was tanking.
So, I decided I wanted to try some of Gameloft’s Windows 8 apps, and almost all of the other online (multiplayer) games work perfectly, even when they need to connect to Facebook or the like.
I downloaded Order & Chaos Online, and it installed smoothly. When I tried to launch it, I got the splash screen, the initial loading screen, and then it asked me about “Allowing to run in background”. I ok’d that, and it ran for about 3 seconds then crashed. The Event Viewer regurgitated an Event Error 1000, and Exception code: 0xc000027b.
Since there are not a well known list of logs for Windows Apps that I could find handy, I used Process Monitor to see if the program was failing on anything that would cause the program to not connect to the online servers or social networks (a common failure on the Windows Phone 8.1 version of the app). I noticed that it was not finding the namespace in the registry called “Windows.Networking.NetworkOperators” located in “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsRuntimeActivatableClassId”. This is usually not too big of a deal since apps fail finding various reg keys all of the time, but this seemed to be an important since my son’s Windows 8.1 laptop had both the namespace and the files that they reference. The files they reference are also missing from my machine.
Now I am wondering if this is why a few of my game apps will not load after the splash screen.
