On a fresh install of Server 2008, VSS will not work. Even if I installed it sucessfully from the server manager.

So I try to start the service manually…

What’s going on?
Just installed the Windows Server Backup Feature in a virtual Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x86 and it just works fine. Also the Volume Shadow Copy is automatically started after the installation of this new Feature.
Maybe the Event Viewer (Start -> Run -> eventvwr.msc) shows more information about the problem of starting this service?
You can also try to search if there are more people with this problem at the Microsoft Technet Forums in the Windows Server 2008 section or ask your question there.
Good luck!
Arris
I just downloaded Server 2008 (x86) from Microsoft, and reinstalled. It works fine now.
