Wow, awesome work!
Can’t test it by myself, because I don’t have a TV Card now, but I hope, it helps someone else! 😉 - 29th September 2009 at 14:04 #59463

Hello,
I also try to install my TV card on a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) machine. I want to use my Hauppauge PVR-500 TV card with GBPVR software to watch and record TV shows from the livingroom with my Egreat M34A NMT.
The card is analog.I received errors when I use the GBPVR TunningAssistent.exe and select my card.
TuningAssistant
Failed to find Crossbar filter. Wrong device type?
OK
I would so happy when I can run it all on my Windows Server 2008 R2.
When I start PVRX2 at the w2k8 machine then I received also an error message:
Sorry, this system does not support the required VMR9 video render.
OK
I have al the things doing in this forum.
* Install a Windows Vista Eng (64bit) machine and get the files with BDAforServer
* Install Windows Server 2008 R2 and activate Desktop Experience and Audio
* Install Windows Media Player 12
* Install K-Lite Codec Pack
* Install Media Player Classic – Home Cinema x64
* Run all the register files the are post
* Run ‘Setup BDA’ to install the Vista files
* Install GBPVRMy server has no Audio device and a simple onboard Video card. When a Audio device is necessary, let my know, then I go to buy one. My Video card is a ‘XGI Volari Z7 controller with 32MB of Video Memory’ wish is onboard of my systemboard: ‘Asus Server DSBV-DX’. The system has 8GB of intern memory and 2x Xeon Quartcore 2.5GHZ processors and a ARC1222 Raid Card with 4 HDD in a Raid5 set.
Can someone help my to get the analog TV Card (Hauppauge pvr-500) running on my Windows Server 2008 R2?

I have clearly stated that there is NO SUPPORT for Analogue (yet). I will be adding Analogue support soon.
I dont have a Analogue tv card, so i will need you/forum people to do some testing for me to get it to work.
Cheers

Copy and paste this to notepad, and then save it with the extension “reg”. Then merge it to your R2 registry.
Let me know if that got your analog to work.

OKGood news I have reload the device drivers ‘Hauppauge PVR-500’ now the error message is goin. I can now select my TVcard and Country. The channel scan works, only it gives no screen. When I try to start PVRX2.exe (from GBPVR) then I received a error message:
Sorry, this system does not support the required VMR9 video render.
OK
VMR9 Video Render, is this maybe why I get no screen (picture) of the channels?
It’s good to now that my system (w2k8 R2) has no audio device and a very simple video card on his onboard. My systemboard is ‘Asus DSBV-DX’ and my Video card is ‘XGI Volari Z7’ with 32MB of Video memory. I use my on Systemboard Video Card. I Hope this no problem. Is a Audio card necessary to watch Live TV with sound on my NMT in the livingroom? - 30th September 2009 at 20:44 #59472

Did you install Desktop experince?
Did you install a codec pack?Just for your info, Hauppauge WinTV app has some incompatiblity problems on server, even on server 2008, many people had problems. My advice is to install an alternative tv app. Best one is dvbviewer (paid) and the best free version of tv app is dvbdream.
EDIT: Am not too sure about that particular video card.
EDIT 2: Sorry i missed few of your posts from first page. Thanks for all the info you provided. I will try get the analog to work asap.

Video Renderer is the most important bit to view picture. Without audio card, you will not get sound, simple. and regards GBPVR, i doubt its fully compatible with server. All tv apps are not compatible with server, speacially these media centre software.

Do you know how can I install VMR9 on my server? I think that this is the problem why I don’t get a screen. When I get screen and the TVcard works well then I go to a shop to buy a Audio device for PCI-E or PCI-X slot. When my VideoCard is the problem, then I also buy a new video card.

dvbdream also works for analog. You cant install VMR9, its part of microsofts OS. I think there’s something wrong with your system, not sure what though.
Maybe you should do a clean install of server again, and then install my “reg” file and BDA R2.msi file as well.
EDIT: You did mention that you installed “bdaforserver” on first page. I think thats were the conflict is, as you installed vista files onto server R2.
My advice is to do a clean install of server R2, and dont bother with those vista files and my old “bdaforserver” as there only for server 2008 and NOT R2.

I dont think its a problem on the video side. VMR9 is installed by server (default, part of Microsofts OS). The video card just renders the picture. No need to buy a new video card for this purpose only.
Just do a clean installer of Server R2. As i mentioned you installed the old server 2008 bda files first, and that is causing all these problems.

I Have do a clean install of Windows Server 2008 R2:
- Install w2k8 server datacenter (64bit)
- Install Desktop Experience
- Install K-Lite codec pack (full-version)
- Install Hauppauge PVR-500 TV Card Drivers
- Install GBPVR (with NMTInstall.exe)
- Load Registerkeys analogue1 & 2 (last posts yesterday) **
- Install DBA_R2_TV_Card
** I have try the card at this point with the TuningAssistant.exe, and received the error code:
TuningAssistant
Failed to find Crossbar filter. Wrong device type?
OK
After install the ‘DBA_R2_TV_Card.msi’ this error message is gone and can I do a Channel scan but without a screen display.I have also try the PVRX2.exe this repports still the same error:
Sorry, this system does not support the required VMR9 video render.
OK
I have install a full clean install of Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter (64bit) a lot of work….
VMR9 video render message is not gone. Also is the VMR9 supported by the OS but my Video Card does support this feature, can this gives the error or is the datacenter version the problem??? I think when the VMR9 error is gone the screen in channel scan maybe also works… - 1st October 2009 at 15:54 #59486

I got orb to see my tv tuner but i couldn’t view any channels on it.Thanks in advance!
What is orb?
If its an tv application (orb) and you can see your tv card there, then its working, just that rob app is no compatible with server.
Try alternative tv viewing apps.

I ment Orb Live sorry, it’s a streaming application for almost anything on your pc. It uses dscaler for watching/streaming tv.
Orb live runs fine on vista with this tv-tuner.
I’ll try some other apps.

I can’t get this to work for me. I’ve tried everything in this post (clean install of Server 2008 R2, installed all necessary drivers, file from first post, desktop experience, k-lite codec pack and registry keys) but DVB Dream gives the error “Cannot Initialize DVB hardware! Error code:2”. I’m using a Pinnacle PCTV-801e. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi,
after a view days and reinstalls i have a question.
my Setup:
– Windows 2008 Standard R2 64 GERMAN
– Hauppauge USB WinTV NOVA TD ( http://www.hauppauge.de/pages/products/data_novatdstick.html )
– WinTV/DVBViewer
– ORBlive: http://orb.com/iphone_howCan I use your installer for the german Win2008 Release ?
http://sharepoint.styletronix.net/KB/Lists/Beitraege/Post.aspx?ID=19
I used this HowTo – but it seams not for R2 – crashes my server after install.a part of the howto is:
“…Im Ordner System32 bzw. Syswow64 in meinem Patch befindet sich jeweils ein Ordner “de-DE” mit Dateien. Wenn man von einem Vista Rechner die entsprechenden Dateien für “en-us” (oder eben die entsprechende Sprachversion) kopiert, sollte die Installation unter englisch sprachigem Server 2008 auch funktionieren….”
short translation:
the patch includes in the dirs %windir%/system32 and %windir%/syswow64 a subdir “de-DE”.
This is for the german Win2k8-server.
For the EN Win2k8-server you need the “en-US” dirs from a vista installation. If your Installer is only for the EN Version of the server – no problem.
Then i install the english server or use the “de-DE” dirs from a fresh vista64.best regards,

Sure will post files list sometime on sunday as am very busy with other stuffs now.
By the way all the files I used are from Windows 7 RTM x64, and NOT Vista.
DO NOT use files from vista or else you will have a corrupt BDA error. Use files from Windows 7 RTM x64.
If you can wait till monday, i will create a Multilanguage BDA R2 or maybe have different language versions of BDA R2, so people can download BDA R2 for which ever language they require.

Can anyone let me know exactly what I need to install to set my Windows 2008 R2 install up as a TV Server (SageTV)? I don’t actually need to watch TV on the server, just for it to work correctly with the tuners. I’m guessing the Desktop Experience, K-lite Codec pack, etc are only necessary if you want to watch TV on the Win2K8 R2 box, is that correct?
Thanks!

hi shahed26,
new Infos at bottom!
i now have extracted the installer with
msiexec /a BDA_R2__TV_Card_.msi /qb TARGETDIR=C:BDA
Ist the System32 dir only for win2008-32bit Installtions ?
…and the System64 only for 64bit installations ?can you post the DLL registering part of your script ?
because – i create two batch files for grab the files from a win7 installation and for installing….
(a closed installer run as Admin on a server from a unknown source is a bad idea)
because need a solution with:
– public/open source for security reasons
– an grabbing script – for own patch creating
– no wait for a new BDA release, if something goes wrong with a new Microsoft Update
– two scripts without binarys copyrighted by MSCan you please public the “do” of your installer – or the source ?
i will public my script here – if it works !
(for access to the beta-script please pm me with your mailadress)
best regards,
dast.
/: edit :/
I have created two scripts:
– the first copy the needed files from a win7 install
– the second install the files to a local running win2008 serverthe copyed german files are included in this ZIP !
can you please check the files and the install script for missing instructions/commands/files ?
I HAVE NOT TESTED THE INSTALL SCRIPT NOW !
I will test the install tomorrow.

The Hauppauge Support is very bad, for every Question i must made a full system info and i become no answers.

After struggling for a while, I have also achieved success. I’ll post my findings here, perhaps they may be of interest to others that are expericencing problems.
It seems that the msi installer does not perform the same tasks as the script does.
The installer did not work for me, but the scripts mentioned a few posts above did somehow.I pulled all the missing files from a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (retail) install using the first batch file.
While running the second batch file on the server I had to make one manual correction however: in the Setup for x64Setup BDA.bat file there is a line which goescopy %systemroot%System32DriverStoreFileRepositorybda.inf_57d991b5bdasup.sys %systemroot%infbdasup.sys
The correct path to that file (on my setup at least) is %systemroot%System32DriverStoreFileRepositorybda.inf_amd64_neutral_41c6262952846788bdasup.sys
My setup is:
– Server 2008 R2 Standard x64 EN (retail)
– Mediaportal TV server 1.0.2
– 2 x digital everywhere FloppyDTV-S2
– digital everywhere FloppyDTV-S

Probably a stupid question, but can i assume that in the first post Cable TV = DVB-C ?
As there is also Cable TV – Analog…Basicly i’m wondering if a Hauppauge with Dual DVB-T and Dual Analog Cable is going to work with 2008 R2 using only the analog cable tv feature.

The analog registry entries are already there in this msi, but still missing few registry entries for full analog support.
Anyways glad to hear that your analog is working.

Hi!
I want to use my Server 2008 R2 (x64) installation as a TV-Server. I am currently running Hyper-V on the server, and that is all.
I will not be watching any channels on the server.
If I have understood the instructions posted here (and elsewhere) correctly, the steps I need to take is:
1. Enable the Desktop Experience feature
2. Install the drivers for my TV card(s)
3. Install the .msi file attached to the first post, or try the script provided by dast
4. Configure the tv program used.Is this correct?

2. Install the drivers for my TV card(s)
3. Install the .msi file attached to the first post
4. Configure the tv program used.Doesn’t work for me (see linked screenshots)…. Driver attempts to install but gets an error. Weird thing is that the devices appear as working normally in the device manager. Digital tuner doesn’t work in any app though – tried Aver MediaCenter & SageTV. Tried several different drivers that work on Windows 7 & on Server 2008 R1. 😥

Excellent information. The system I am building on is 32bit, and according to TechNet 2008 R2 is x64 or better only. Will this “new” version of bdaforserver still run fine on a 2008 Server machine?
I was running Windows 7 Ultimate previously on said computer, but the Remote Apps functions that Server 2008 offers were pivotal in my decision to go ahead and change over.

I left the MSI installed even though it didn’t work initially. After getting the script I found that RickDeckard was right & i needed to adjust the batch files. I too got my tuner working with windows 7 x64 versions of the files.

These steps seem to help but I’m missing the SystemTuningSpaces. Anyone know what this is? Is that part of the BDA or is that related to my tuner (HDHomeRun)

Sorry guys for the lack of reply’s to your questions. I Am dropping this tv tuner support, coz am just too busy with my work, and cant reply to your questions.
All the info and batch files you need to get tv working under server r2 are already in this thread.

I guess I am going to show my windows scripting ignorance here. I have the script, and I can find the files in windows explorer, but when I try to run the batch, the script can’t see the files. Can someone enlightent me as to what setting I have wrong? I am running the .bat script from an ‘Administrator’ command line.
Thanks

I have a Hauppauge HVR-2250 inside a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. I installed the Desktop Experience, K-Lite Codec Pack (full), drivers, WinTV, the MSI from the first post, and SageTV. I am able to pull in analog OTA signal but not digital OTA signal. The message coming back from SageTV is something along the lines of class not registered. Is there an additional set of filters/DLLs that cover that?

I’m trying to get my Terratec Cinergy C HD PCI to work on Windows 2008 R2. I installed the drivers using the ones installed on a Windows 7-machine and Windows recognized the card.
But when trying to view the channels (I’m trying to run DVBLink Server) I get the error that it’s unable to initialize the hardware. After that error, I installed some BDA-drivers and with a registry-hack (copy/paste some keys) I managed to get the BDA Source Filters in graphedit, but unfortunately that didn’t help. I still got the error.
Do I need to use the dbaforserver-batch file? Or is it just because I’m using the server through RDP?

Alright guys, you officially rock. Using the MSI installer plus the analogue1.reg in the link Shahed26 Provided I was able to get my HP Pavillion laptop’s integrated TV card to work using beyond TV on server 2008r2. This was the last piece of the Server 2008r2 super workstation puzzle.

I had the card working fine, but since a few weeks I’m unable to scan for channels. Windows and the software do recognize the card and it seems to function properly, but it can’t find any channels.
I tried different software, all with the same problem. The card is working, because I tried it on a Windows 7-machine yesterday and it found all channels right away.
I installed:
1. Windows Server 2008R2 x64
2. DirectX 9c
3. Desktop Experience
4. BDA_R2_TV_Card.msi
6. bdaforserver (with the drivers from a Windows 7-machine)Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong? Are the codecs necessary for scanning for channels?

Just to let you know people.
I am installing a new brand Dell T110 Server with 8 cores Intel Xenon 64 and of course all new hardware out of the “server mind” is giving me hell. At least with the help of this forum, I was able to make work (at least partially) a WinTV HVR1850 card with WinTV 7. This is what I had to do:
1-Remove WinTV drivers, Win TV 7, and leftovers using their hcwclear.exe.
2-I used the scripts in this forum (bdaforserver.rar file) posted earlier and followed the instructions there, but in my case it didn’t work as it is (it need a small mod). First, I don’t have a Windows 7 64 bit machine to get the needed files that the instructions ask. So I had to get a Windows 7 64bit DVD image mounted and using 7-Zip I was able to retrieve these files one by one and place them in the “bdaforserversourcex64…” directory.
3-Now I moved the bdaforserver directories to the root of my Server and using a command window as Administrator ran the “Setup BDA.bat”. Looking into the bat file, it is supposed to run in a flash without seeing what happen, and then the server restart. So, I first eliminated the echo off at the beginning and the shutdown at the end, so give me a chance to see if things evolve ok. Now I ran it!
4-A few troubles can be seen right away (fortunately I modified the bat file) . As somebody already report, the line text:
%systemroot%System32DriverStoreFileRepositorybda.inf_57d991b5bdasup.sys
Has to be changed (at least in my Dell server) to:
%systemroot%System32DriverStoreFileRepositorybda.inf_amd64_neutral_41c6262952846788bdasup.sys
This is the only bda.inf_…. option I have in my FileRepository directory in the server. I confess that the _amd64_ in the name of my directory scared me since my server is a Intel (no Amd) but the directory that the bat file calls is not in my server 2008 R2 and of course gives an error in the copy. No other possibility and using this other alternative worked for me.
Another trouble is that there were a couple files in both, System32 and SysWOW64 directories that didn’t move as the bat script intended (the bat returned an access denied error), but apparently this was because the files already existed in my computer and were being used. The ones in my computer appear to be the same (at least same time stamp and length) If you care, there were kswdmcap.ax.mui and mpg2splt.ax.
5- I merged the analogue1.reg file (i.e. right click on it and Merge) for the analog stuff that is actually what I need.
6- Now I reset (remember I removed the shutdown in the bat file)
7-Now I do a new driver installation of my HVR1850 video card that still reported a “driver install unsuccessful” error, keep going anyway and install Windows TV7 and the install appears to be ok.
8- I check the Device Manger to see the possible driver errors and there are 4 Unknown Devices, however the driver for the HVR1850 appears ok. I wonder if has to do with the remote or IR blaster that I don’t use in the card.
9- I run Win TV and yes it appears I can load channels and see ATSC and Analog TV, no the FM radio however. I can not even load channels on the radio.
10- I tried the little AMCap program (that you can find easily in the net) and works even better (much less delay than WIN TV7 and Radio is ok). Just for analog however. Also, not sure if needed for the purpose of this, but I disabled the ridiculous 8MB embedded video adapter in my motherboard and got a decent cheap PCIe video card with 512MB.
Also for the audio I installed a SoundBlaster X-FI PCIe (this server only has PCIe slots) the computer came with not audio chipset or adapter at all.On top of this I got a Multi touch Acer T230H screen, but after activating the whole desktop experience, tablet, etc, I only get single touch, this needs further work. Not sure why this not behave the same than Windows 7.
My idea is to set the server and screen in the Kitchen so it can be used to watch TV and Videos and controlled right on the screen. Of course, it works as a server for the house, media, small home business data center and domain controller, and finally a beautiful fish tank most of the time.
Cheers.

In case any one is looking for an alternate solution (particularly for usb tuners) read on:
Using all the suggestions above, I tried getting my Asus P7131 and HVR-950Q tuner to work in R2 but not very successful. I was able to get the P7131 to show video in vlc but no audio.
My original intention was to be able to remotely control my tv tuner and vlc seemed like the only option. I gave up and came up with alternate solution.I ended up using Vista installed as a guest in VMWare Player. I then connected the usb HVR-950Q and installed the drivers in the guest os. WinTV didn’t want to install so I just installed SoftMCE_Setup from the extracted files. I then configured Media Center which worked (although not very well). From there I installed WebGuide4. Now I am able to watch TV on the host by connecting to my guest WebGuide server. I am using a i5 750 and the vmware guest uses about one core to stream live tv to my host browser.
As a side note for those who are considering using Hyper-V: I used Hyper-V in a previous workstation system and one of the issues I had was that it doesn’t work well with (at least my) 3D graphics cards. So you may want to consider an alternate solution like vmware. Here is a link that discusses the issue. http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/datacenter/?p=521

Hi guys,
I have a machine at home that I use as a server. Right now it has WHS, but I am turning this to SBS2008. The problem is that in WHS, I successfully use a WinTV analog card for streaming TV using Orb and SBS2008 is Server 2008 (x64) so… What can I do?
Is there a chance I can make it work?
(even if I stayed on WHS but moved to Veil – it will again be x64 and Server 2008 R2 core)

I have 2 SkyStar 2 PCI cards in a MediaPortal Server. This was running successfully under Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-bit). I now want to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit). I have installed the OS, and 64-bit BDA drivers from the Technisat site without visible error. I also installed your BDA s/w. No card is recognised, and MediaPortal reports:

at TvLibrary.Implementations.TvCardCollection.DetectCards()There is no such id {C6…} in the registry, though there was for the WS03 version.
I also applied (perhaps wrongly) the MP dvbfix for XP before trying your s/w:

I now worry that all those regsvr32’s may be wrong for a 64-bit OS?Any idea how to proceed? I could reinstall Windows (again!) if necessary.

Hello,
I’ve made a Windows 7 BDA stack installer script.
It should have better quality (some bugs that occured in the original msi are fixed on my installer) than the original msi and also, it’s way more “transparent”.Updated: 26-03-2011

I ran the BDA installer from the very first posting of this thread, on my Windows 2008 Server R2 Standard Edition x64, and my AutumnWave OnAir Solution HDTV GT tuner now works flawlessly. Analog/NTSC and Digital/ATSC both work, along with channel scan, closed-captioning (analog & digital), and EPG.
Thank you so much for putting that installation together!
FYI, the only additional thing I had to do was install the beta 3.2.0.4 OnAir driver for 64-bit, which I found at http://autumnwave.com/Index1.html. The 3.2.0.4 driver works fine, but the accompanying software is flakey, so I installed the 3.2.0.3 GUI while keeping the 3.2.0.4 driver loaded.

My TV Card (some kind of ASUS 7134) works in W7 out of the box. The card uses native W7 driver (Ph3xIBC2.inf + Ph3xIB64.sys + Ph3xIB64MV.dll). When I try to use this driver in W2008R2, then I get message it is not digitally signed of course. The ASUS does not provide standalone driver for the card, they refer to W7 driver only. How can I transfer the drivers from W7 to W2008R2?

Reply to my previous post: Problem with drivers resolved as follows:
I used original signed Philips reference driver for SAA chip I found somewhere in internet and I modified the INF file of Philips driver with the content of Ph3xIBC2.inf from Windows 7. This way I transfered the parts responsible for settings of my card to Philips-INF file. It works now fine. - 24th June 2011 at 11:32 #59553

Could someone please reupload the files to get analogue working? All the links seem to be dead.
If it helps, I have the Hauppauge Colossus, I installed the original BDA MSI and now WinTV detects it, but says it’s unavailable (also “No Tuner Available” is in the WinTV’s title bar).
Thanks!

Hi,
the driver for your device is needed, otherwise the device is unusable. The MSI installs addons that are neede “above” the driver.
Check for a Windows 7 64Bit driver. You should be able to install it.

What would I do without this site?
Didn’t even consider compatibility with Server 2008 R2 when I bought my TV Tuner.
Twenty minutes of confusion before I headed here for a perfect solution.
Hauppauge WinTV HVR-2250 working on Server 2008 R2.
Thanks!

Hi, I have a WinTV-HVR-2200 TV Tuner card in my 2008 R2 HP Microserver N36L, which I assume is an Analogue card.
Without any initial intervention, using NextPVR, the card is recognised as a 7164 (even though windows recognises it correctly as 2200) but an attempt to run channel scan results in the crossbar filter error.
If I use the MSI supplied by Shahed, NextPVR sees the device as both digital and analogue but if I try and scan with the analogue component, the application crashes.
Unfortunately, the reg merge although successful has no affect.
Is there a card that will work with HP Micro Server, W2K8 R2 AND NextPVR ?
Thanks

I also try to install my TV card on a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) machine. I want to use my Hauppauge PVR-500 TV card with GBPVR software to watch and record TV shows from the livingroom with my Egreat M34A NMT.
