  Optical drives don’t have drivers, they have firmware. Have you tried with other tools then Windows Explorer or Windows Media Player? Try to burn a cd/dvd with Nero or a cd/dvd image with ImgBurn. These applications should recognize your drive as a dvd burner.

  Hey guys,
  
  i have a Plextor PX-716A and not able to burn any CD/DVD under Windows 2008.
  Windows treats it as a usual CD/DVD drive. I did no find any specific drivers.
  Anybody succeded in burning cd’s yet?
