You are right about using Windows 7 x64 drivers, because in 99% of the cases the hardware manufacturers won’t add Windows Server 2008 R2 drivers on their site (which are exactly the same as Windows 7 x64 drivers) because then they also have to support them.
Anyway, have you tried installing the drivers manually in stead of using the installer? See the following page how to do that: Win2008R2Workstation.com – Drivers – Manually.
